Master Lexicanum Edward McKenzie

Edward McKenzie was born on the hive planet known as Ichar, same as Lord Kevlinn. And so was McGranth and Charleston.

But Edward McKenzie wasn´t born in a Space Marine family like his to comrades-in-arms. No, he was born in a family that has suffered greatly from mutations and the like throughout the millenia, and he was well aware about his great luck to have been born with two mutations.
One that gave him the strength and longevity of a Space Marine and the other that gave him incredible psychic powers. He knew that he had the Inquisition breathing in his neck his entire childhood, and when he even joined the Death Angel Legion, he felt he was looked at.

As he joined the Death Angels, the Master Lexicanum at that time, Kieran Du Vane, noticed his powers almost emmidiatly. McKenzie was taken up in the Librarius of the Legion and learned to master his powers and hone them. When he became a Lexicanum, he finally felt that the Inquisition leaved him alone. But this wasn´t to last very long.....

As McKenzie got his first leave after almost twenty years of training, he decided to go see his family. He had unlike McGranth and Charleston not gotten regular leaves as he was to be trained as a Space Marine Lexicanum. When he got home to his mom, it was no real shock that she´d aged.
No, the real shock was his little brother, George. George was also a psyker and he was almost 12 years when McKenzie showed up again. McKenzie was happy to see his little brother, but he wanted him to train to a Primaris Psyker that could aid the Guardsmen out on the field.
George said he understood and would do as Edward said. The last thing McKenzie said as he went back to his Legion was that he would come back one day, and see to that George did as he was told.  How wrong he was going to have.

McKenzie had only been in the Legion for about ten years, before an Inquisitor showed up in the fortress monastery of the Death Angels, and asked to see Codicier McKenzie.
(The Librarian ranks are, lowest first: Lexicanum, Codicier, Epsitolary and Chief Librarian/Master Lexicanum.)

McKenzie was told about the Inquisitor, and he was not happy that the human was there. The only times he´d encountered the Inquisition it had meant trouble, bigtime. And McKenzie´s experiance of Inquisitors was to be right. The human said that he wanted to make a simple test of geneseed on McKenzie. Against his will, Edward agreed.
McKenzie was told that his brother, George, had in some way been infected by Genestealer DNA, and thus he had been proved to be a cultist from birth, and his psychic powers had helped him in his advancement in his ranks. He had become a Hive Magus in less the four years.
Edward couldn´t believe it. His brother had promised to become a Primaris Psyker, he had sworn upon his family name. Then, McKenzie realized how little his family must have meant to his brother. He was enraged over this and it is said that he went strait away to the Armoury and picked up his Force Sword, gathered a small force of Marines and some Land Raider tanks and set course for his home city, New Gettysburgh, intent on finding his brother and 'liberate' him.

He didn´t find George, but he found his home and his mother (his father had joined the Imperial Guard and hadn´t showed up after that) dead, murdered. There was a note by her that said:

'This woman gave me life, even though I´m nothing more than a cancer, gnawing away at the heart of society. But I´m just one of the many infected cells, there are thousands more.
These cells, however need a leader, and just like Humanity has the Emperor, Hive Fleet Behemoth, as you´ve code-named it, has got me. Prepare for the day of Consumption, She Who Feeds is coming!'

It was signed in George McKenzie´s writing: 'Hive Magus Grimjaw'

And so Codicer McKenzie´s quest for his brother began. He would rest at nothing, he didn´t even care about Kevin Poole´s treason when McGranth informed him about it. He just wanted to find his brother and kill him. But so wasn´t to be, as Fate had some extra stuff installed for Edward McKenzie.

About 34 years after Kevin Poole´s treason and George McKenzie´s 'rebirth' as Hive Magus Grimjaw, Master Lexicanum Kieran Du Vane led an attack along with McKenzie, Charleston and the 'new' Grand Commander Eddie McGranth against a Hive Fleet base on Radius, a djungle-world, very much like Saimm-Hann. This planet was however not only infested with Tyranids, it was also a so-called Deathworld. A Deathworld is a planet on which the plants can be as dangerous as the enemy you´re fighting.
McKenzie and Du Vane´s force got split off from the rest of the army and the psykers force was quickly decimated. McKenzie was along with four Tactical Marines and two Terminator Marines the only survivors. Edward had watched haplessly as Du Vane was torn apart by one of the carnivorous plants. Du Vane´s last word´s was shouted out as he said:
"Take over, in the name of the Emperor, McKenzie! Take over after me...."
And that was how McKenzie advanced from Epistolary to Master Lexicanum. Now he slowed down his hunt for his brother, as reality catched up.

Lord Kevlinn had become one formidable foe, and McGranth found it hard to defeat him without McKenzie´s advice. The next 130 years wasn´t much to write home about, so let´s make a little jump through time.

When Commissar General Chomaki was killed, the Commissariat didn´t want to take care of Commissar Rolf any more, so it was placed upon McKenzie, with his extensive knowledge of Imperial Law and History, to learn him the last parts. This sometimes adventured Commissar Rolf Yarrick´s life a bit, like one occasion on Volrath, where they first acctually met and Yarrick got explained to him that his final training was going to be learnt through McKenzie. McKenzie was startled over the human´s tall and slender build, but Yarrick was still incredibly strong. And agile.
This didn´t help much though, as the Genestealers that attacked them belonged to Hive Fleet Kanker. McKenzie lost sight of his ward. After the battle was over, he asked through the Guardsman HQ if anyone had seen Yarrick. Some didn´t know at all, but the Colonel said he´d seen Yarrick cut down by a Genetealer in map section C4. McKenzie found that spot on the map and ran fastest he could towards that spot.
He soon found Yarrick and dug him out of the snow. Yarrick was barely alive, but he was alive. Edward heaved up the human in his arms, careful not to forget the sword.

That was the last time McKenzie did anything 'big' to be noticed. He chased down a couple of Tzeentchian warbands, but that was all. When Kevlinn came back under the name Kharn, in honour to the Deamon that had possessed him, McKenzie forwarned his fellow-warriors about this. He knew that the end of the world was nigh, and he also knew a second age of Deamonicy was coming. No-one could stop it. He was at least secure on that the Tyranids wouldn´t aid the Berzerker Lord, but he was going to be wrong.
McGranth came back one day from a mission in the Underhive of Ichar and had terrible news. He´d killed Edward´s brother, but what Eddie didn´t know was that Magus Grimjaw should have been dead hundreds of years ago. McKenzie sensed that something wasn´t right and tried to seek his brother out, but his searching was interrupted by Lord Kharn´s second invasion against Armageddon.
The Death Angels and the Armageddon Defence Force stopped the invasion, but the Berzerkers had grown stronger, much stronger. They now had the aid of Deamons, Greater and Lesser, and these were hard contestends to being the most lethal warriors in the galaxy. In the midst of fighting, McKenzie saw the purple hides of Genestealers and a robed figure leading them.
The figure turned out to be George and to Edward´s grief, he´d given himself completly to the Hive Mind. They both fought each other long and hard, but in the end, Grimjaw (or George, whatever you prefer best) made a psychic flash and disappeared. McKenzie had no idea of where he´d gone.

Edward´s life was rather quiet as his brother had disappeared, but this quiethood was broken down once again by a deamonic presense in the system, as Kharn went to Callidus to put an end to Commissar Rolf Yarrick´s life. Edward also knew in some way that Sebastian was in dire trouble, just as his grandfather. He told his commander and the threesome made haste for Callidus in the Thunderhawk 'Divine Light'. They were too late, Lord Kharn had struck and Commissar Rolf Yarrick lay on the ground, his right hand lost. McKenzie made a bionic one for the commissar to use, but he wasn´t too happy when the result of this was that Rolf Yarrick´s Space Marine genestrand was broken down. In short, Commissar Rolf Yarrick started aging, but he never became an old man, in the prospect of being bent down etc. No, once again the deamonic presense was there and McKenzie had forseen this and constructed a spirit-ball.
Once again he hurried for Callidus, and when he found the 15 year old Sebastian sitting by his grandfathers barely living body, he felt Sebastian´s grief. Edward used the spirit-ball as it was supposed to and helped Sebastian to carry the body home.
The sorrow that followed throughout the Imperium is hard to describe, but McKenzie knew it hadn´t ended yet.

He started working on a Warp-gate, to solve the Eldar mystery of how to construct them. His inventing was disturbed (as much other things in his life) by the sudden attack from Lord Kharn and his allied Dark Eldar and Hive Fleet Behemoth. They fought long and hard and the last stand was at the Imperial Palace, where McKenzie put the finishing touches to his Warp-gate prototype, just as the Berzerkers stormed the gates, Lord Kharn cut down Commissar Sebastian Yarrick like corn (Commissar Yarrick was after all an old man by now) and the Emperor was killed as well.
McKenzie and his friends fled to Earth to recall the Outlaws and the rest, you should know by now.
